Places of Interest
These are some of the interesting places of Lanzarote, we recommend that you visit them.
Lanzarote is an Island of unique beauty, by visiting some of these sites you will have the opportunity to take home with you a very specific image of the island.
JAMEOS DEL AGUA
Probably the greatest work of the artist Cesar Manrique, his creative genius is everywhere. He has transformed this lava tube into a work of art. The subterranean walkway, the auditorium, cafe, swimming pool, underground lagoon with the blind albino crab (Munidopsis Polymorfa) which in the entire world is found only there.
This is without doubt a sincere expression of the adaptation of man with nature.
TIMANFAYA NATIONAL PARK
This is undoubtedly, one of the most interesting National Parks of Spain, not only because of its lunar landscape of unusual beauty, but also because of its enormous geologic interest.
On the 9th August, 1974 he was declared the “Timanfaya National Park·. It encloses a surface area of 51.07 kms² of the southwest of the island. The whole park is from volcanic eruption that started in 1730 and went on until 1736. Here in the “mountains of fire” we find the volcanoes with expressive names, “the boiler of the ravens” and” the failed mountain ".
These are still classed as active volcanos although there is no danger, and hot spots exist near the surface which reach 100-120°C, and 600°C at 13-meter depth.
At Isolote Hilario you can see lunch being cooked over an open tube fumerol, the artificial geysers, caused by pouring cold water into pipe that is only 3 meters into the ground and instantly turns the water to steam, camel thorn bushes instantaneously combusting.
TEGUISE STREET MARKET

The history of Teguise goes back to the first known inhabitants the "Majos" In the area of the current town of Teguise, there was the village of “Acatife”, one of the main centers of the "Majo" population. Teguise also known as “La Villa” was the capital of Lanzarote till 1852 when the port of Arrecife became the capitol of the island.
Every Sunday there is a market which over the years has become very tourist orientated (don’t forget to haggle over everything) but local wares and produce including wine can still be found. All types of stalls line the cobbled streets. There are lots of bar/cafes these are houses converted for the Sunday market and are worth a visit, as you can still see the architecture dating back to the 17th century and the feeling of home that some still have.
MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART
The castle is at present the international museum of contemporary art, there is also an auditorium and restaurant. The Conversion of the castle was another Ceasar Manrique project.
“El Golfo” is the name of a crater of prehistoric origin (the volcanic eruptions took place under water) is one of the few and rare examples of hydro-volcanism - volcanic activity that occurs near the coast.. The crater itself is at sea level only half is left as the rest has been eroded by the sea, In its interior, in the rear of the crater, is La Laguna de los Ciclos, a lake of the most intense green - a colour that is produced by the concentration of the algae, Ruppia Maritima.
El Golfo is also the name of the tiny fishing village next to the crater. A great place to sit relax and have a late lunch in the canarian style. Then stay to watch the sun go down.
PAPAGALLO BEACHES

Placed in the south of the island, the papagayo beaches offer a place of peace and unique beauty. A collection of beaches in the south of Lanzarote with golden sands of between 100m and 400m in length and separated by high promontories.
Earlier when Playa Blanca was still a fishing village, it was a bit of an adventure to reach them. Today it is still an unpaved road to the beaches but access is a lot easier but you will have to take everything you need with you as there are no services. This was and is the ideal spot on the island for those who want to switch off and forget the civilization
